Food and Nutrition Lower V Group on Tour!

on

This week, the department headed to Valencia with our Lower V language group to sample some wonderful Spanish food and we most certainly have not been disappointed!

We have enjoyed beautiful buffets with hot and cold food at the hotel, a meal at a Spanish restaurant, and, of course, as Valencia is the birthplace of paella, some amazing varieties have been appreciated by our students.

On Tuesday, we visited the Valencia City Market to see some truly wonderful seafood, meat, fruit and vegetables, spices, nuts, and plenty of Serrano ham – a selection was over 25 years old! It was amazing, and the students made comparisons with our Borough Market tour that we took earlier this term.

The selection of light and buttery pastries across the welcoming panadarias have been hard to resist and with such reasonable prices, we have enjoyed a wide range of flavours both sweet and savoury.

The language classes have been interesting and fun with engaging teachers who make learning Spanish easy.  The students have enjoyed the traditional light and fluffy enriched bread Fartons and Valencianes cakes as a snack between classes.  We have been trying to find new delights to tempt them!

The rather wet weather has not dampened our spirits, and a welcome and refreshing local drink hornchata has been tried by a few students who relish new experiences and tastes. Hornchata is made from a local plant, which is ground to make an appealing milkshake with an earthy, sweet and smooth taste.

We are all looking forward to visit the aquarium later today to see the fish in their natural habitat and the beach on Thursday.
