On Tuesday, a group of A Level Literature students attended the Poems of the Decade Conference in London.
As well as a session on approaching the poetry exam, students got to hear from and ask questions to three of the poets whose works appear in the modern anthology which they study.
Acclaimed poet Daljit Nagra spoke about apostrophe in his poem ‘Look, we have coming to Dover!’ and Ros Barber gave a heartfelt reading and interpretation of her poem ‘Material’.
Finally, current Poet Laureate Simon Armitage spoke about his poem ‘Chainsaw versus the Pampas Grass’ in his inimitable, drole style and gave students some valuable tips on how to unpack an unseen poem. It was a great day and fantastic to see live poets talking about their work
