Young Writers – Poetry Competition

on

I have always loved reading and writing small stories and poems. Not too long ago I had an opportunity to enter a Power of Poetry competition for children between the ages 11 and 18. I found out it was a national competition so I had mixed thoughts.

I had quite a few subjects to choose from so I decided to go for it. Onwards and upwards!!! I gave it my best shot and was rewarded to feature in a book titled, ‘The Power of Poetry – The Write Stuff’. I was surprised but proud to be the only entry from our school and Berkshire in the book!

I had picked, ‘hope’ so I thought my poem should be interesting yet inspiring. I wrote about a young girl, playing by the ocean and how the tide changed as time went by, but she took on the challenge to fight her way back to her family.

With this new found confidence I would like to try entering a few more competitions and maybe a lyrical! My favourite part of the process was definitely writing the poem, but one of the most important things I learnt during the process, was to just give it a go, and try your very best.
