Year of Creative Industries – Poetry Society

on

On Wednesday, students from both The Abbey and Reading School met for another meeting of our Poetry Society. Students from both schools were invited to bring poems written in the 20th Century and, due to the broad nature of the topic, we read and talked about a range of works from Larkin’s ‘Talking in Bed’ and ‘An Arundle Tomb’ to Kipling’s ‘The Way Through the Woods’ and more. Discussions stemming from our poems focused on presentations of feminine religious devotion, timeless love and a poetry society stalwart ‘can we separate the art from the artist?’

By the end of the meeting, once the sweet treats had been eaten, we began to think about how music and poetry intertwine and the role that lyricism plays in our generation’s relationship with poetry. It was agreed that the theme for our next poetry society would therefore be Music and Poetry. The meeting will be January 24th 4:15-5:00 pm.
