On Friday 6 October, Upper III went to the Reading Museum and the Reading Abbey to support our study of the Norman Conquest in History.
At the museum, once we had settled in, my group went to the Bayeux Tapestry and explored the 70-metre-long ancient artefact, having some fun at the same time. We dressed up and re-enacted William of Normandy’s steps to the throne. I was Edith and was congratulated for my murderous looks.
After that, we went to the Reading Abbey (dressed up as ancient citizens) and walked around the area where the great Abbey once stood. A kind lady talked us through the Abbey’s history and where the Abbot and Monks lived in 1121. We danced to a drum beat and learned a slow dance that Elizabeth I danced to due to her long skirt.
This was an adventurous yet educational experience and I believe that we, as a year group, would love to go back to visit the Abbey ruins and Reading Museum again.
