Upper I – African Silhouette Art project

on

Over the past four weeks, students in Upper I have been researching different techniques used across different regions of Africa.

They studied the bold, rich colours used, the patterns inspired from nature and how artists use these on materials, canvas, buildings and even in hairstyles. The students have experimented with dot painting, printing, marbling and mark making. This week, they had the opportunity to put it all together to create a silhouette of an African woman.

Neriah – “I loved that this art unit linked to Africa and I could share parts of my culture with my class.”

Annie – “I loved making and discovering African prints and finding out about the style in Africa.”

Rosa, Hayden, Kanvika and Ishita – “We loved making patterns using dot art, jelly printing and marbling. We can’t wait to put it all together.”
