Today’s staff stories we hear from Rachel Dunford Learning Support, SENDCo – who loves comedies and once represented GB in Dubai in 2015.

Who is your hero?
Roy Castle was my childhood hero- he had so many talents and did a lot of work for charity.

What is your favourite vacation and why?
I love anywhere green that I can explore- although I went to the Arctic circle on honeymoon.

What was your favourite school subject?
Music.

Do you have a celebrity crush?
Hugh Jackman

What was the last thing you read?
The Bullet that Missed- Richard Osman.

Would you rather cook or order takeaway?
Cook.

What interested you about your subject before becoming a teacher in this field?
I studied Psychology, so the way people learn interested me from a young age so SEN was a natural choice.

What advice or career advice would you give your younger self?
Don’t shy away from ambition or opportunities to learn.

What’s your favourite family tradition?
Family film night on a Saturday- sharing some childhood favourites with my own children and discovering new films together.

What is your favourite way to spend your free time?
Reading or playing board games.

What did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to work in a shoe shop.

Are you an early bird or a night owl?
I peak around mid-morning!

What’s your biggest fear?
Snakes

Describe yourself in three words…
Fun-loving, active, loyal.

What music do you like listening to?
I love 90s Indie music, musicals, classical and some folk music.

Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of school?
I coach and play cricket, play ultimate frisbee, run and am a member of Cholsey and Wallingford concertband (clarinet). I also enjoy baking, reading, board games and crochet.

A fun fact about yourself or something that someone else may not know about you.
I represented GB in the World Ultimate Club championships in Dubai in 2015. I also share a birthday with Nelson Mandela, Richard Branson and the actor James Norton.

Where did you grow up?
Surrey.

What animal best describes you?
A sea otter- they hold hands when they sleep so they don’t drift apart- this reflects how loyal I am to my friends.

If you were stranded on a desert island, which two items could you not live without?
A cricket ball and a teapot!

Do you have a secret talent or party trick?
I can wiggle my ears.

Comedy
