Senior Musicians in Lakeside Concert

on

On Tuesday, Ms. Bilkey, the Jazz trio (Aarini, Oya, and Alexia in Lower VI), and I took a trip to a Lakeside Care Home to give a concert for the residents.

I have been volunteering at Lakeside since last June, playing the violin for the residents. One resident repeatedly asked me to play jazz, but I found playing it alone challenging. Determined to follow their request, I organised and invited some students from our school to join me, and the jazz trio kindly agreed to participate.

The jazz trio, accompanied by Ms. Bilkey, performed “Fly Me to the Moon,” “Misty,” and “White Christmas” to open the concert. Their performance was incredible, and all the residents, particularly the one who had requested it, thoroughly enjoyed the music! Additionally, we had a sing-along of carols with piano and ukulele played by Ms. Bilkey. We sang descant and harmony for the carols, allowing many residents to actively participate and enjoy the music together.

Witnessing the residents with joyful expressions, and thoroughly enjoying themselves during our performance, was heartwarming. I am grateful for the opportunity to take music beyond the school and spread joy to the community.
