The Abbey Junior School recently celebrated British Science Week with a variety of engaging activities that ignited the students’ curiosity and passion for Science. One of the highlights was the wonderful, interactive assembly hosted by the passionate science captains. These enthusiastic student leaders captivated their peers, sparking a contagious excitement for scientific exploration.

The Science Captains also took time out to visit Knell House, where they shared some delightful science books with the Reception students. This cross-age collaboration not only fostered a love for reading but also planted the seeds of scientific interest in the youngest minds.

Lower Prep and Upper Prep students had the opportunity to showcase their scientific knowledge in house quizzes hosted by Mrs. Jones. The friendly competition brought out the best in the participants, with Carrington emerging victorious in the Lower Prep and Paget claiming the top spot in Upper Prep.

The Lower I to Lower III students participated in an online house quiz, demonstrating their ability to apply scientific concepts in a digital setting. The scores were impressive, with Paget securing 3663 points, Ducat amassing 3931 points, and Carrington accumulating 3986 points. However, the winners were Kensington, who soared to new heights with an impressive 4246 points. Well done everyone in Kensington!

One of the big highlights of the week was the Paper Plane Competition, which captured the imagination of students across all year groups. With a simple yet ingenious concept, this activity encouraged students to explore the principles of aerodynamics and flight while fostering creativity and friendly rivalry.

The winners were:

Longest Flight: Summer (Lower I), Camilla (Upper I), Avika (Upper II) and Yashasvee (Lower III)

Best Design: Deshna (Lower I), Annie. L (Upper I), Kiara (Upper II and Kaashwi (Lower III)

Science Week at The Abbey Junior School was a resounding success, igniting a passion for scientific inquiry and fostering a love for hands-on learning experiences. Through interactive assemblies, cross-age collaborations, quizzes, and competitions, the school cultivated an environment where curiosity flourished, and the joy of discovery was celebrated.
