For the past two months, we have been attending a series of five Royal Institution Mathematics Masterclasses, representing The Abbey.
They are a series of workshops that have been led by different people with a career or a strong interest in maths. Our favourite session was when we learnt about stock markets and we got to experiment and see what it was actually like buying stocks.
However, the experience as a whole has been so fascinating and engaging for us, with sessions looking at how maths and computer science can be linked; or how to use statistics and try to test out their reliability. We think this has been a fantastic opportunity because it has shown us the variety of ways in which maths has been applied to many people’s careers or lives.
