OUTSTANDING GCSE RESULTS AT THE ABBEY

on

Students at The Abbey are celebrating superb GCSE results today. A remarkable third of all grades awarded were the top grade 9, with nearly 60% 9-8 (A*) and over 80% at 9-7 (A*-A). Across the year group, 40 students scored at least eight grades at 9 and 8, representing a phenomenal achievement. These excellent outcomes were secured across an extraordinary 25 subject disciplines, showing the range of learning and aspiration of Abbey students.

Sustained academic excellence at The Abbey has led to strong growth at the top of the school. A continuing increase in Sixth Form numbers over recent years shows how students are taking advantage of our bespoke curriculum, exceptional teaching staff and fantastic new Sixth Form Centre.

Head of The Abbey, Dr Sarah Tullis, commented: “These outstanding grades are testament to the hard work of all our students and staff. There is no doubt that our all-girls environment helps students to excel: we put them first. By valuing every individual and celebrating her personal success, we are a school in which students flourish. We are hugely proud of all they achieve.

“It is telling that, in a national context in which girls do not always feel confident to study Science, an extraordinary 80% of Abbey students scored grades 9 and 8 in both Biology and Chemistry. Across STEM, languages, humanities and creative subjects students have achieved brilliantly, testament to their wide-ranging curiosity, scholarly attitudes and expert and dedicated teaching. We are so grateful to our staff for the way they go over and above to support each student, whether giving one-to-one advice and guidance or running additional classes throughout the year.

“In a community which supports students to seek opportunities and pursue ambitions, encouraging them to live with joy, we are delighted to see how they have navigated their GCSEs and look forward to seeing them forge ahead in all that comes next. These wonderful grades will open doors; however, as we always say, what will really matter is the ways in which the students walk confidently through them, ready to thrive in a changing future.”
