Interludes Recital

on

The Interludes Recital Series resumed on Wednesday and it was wonderful to hear some beautiful solo performances once again after the long Christmas break.

On what was ‘National Classy Day’, it was a treat to hear some very stylish and classy playing from violinists and pianists alike.  Shumeng launched the new series of the term with an impressive piece on the piano by Richard Clayderman, followed by an equally astonishing display of virtuosic talent on the violin by Elva.  Returning to the piano, Aryakka performed a memorised version of Alone Part 2 and Shree, who had also expertly introduced the performers throughout, closed the recital with an extremely moving performance of Melodie by Tchaikovsky on the violin.

All pieces were warmly received by a large and encouraging audience.  What a wonderful way to start the New Year!

A view from the audience:
I have only been at the school for just over one year but the one thing I tell anyone who asks about the difference between my previous school and this one is the fantastic musical talent that is found in the student body.

Whilst this is obviously heard during the school events throughout the year; it can be found, in particular, one lunchtime every week with the Music Department’s Interlude Recitals. Here, students perform a piece of music, or song, to a small audience of students and staff.

I love taking twenty minutes out of my week and listening to an amazing range of music, instruments and vocalists. I think of it as a small piece of calm in the middle of what is usually a very busy week.

The Music Department Team and the Students deserve amazing praise for all their hard work practising and preparing these Interludes, and indeed for the Students, for their bravery to stand up and play for an audience, sometimes for the first time. All I can say is well done everyone!
