Steve McQueen, Turner Prize winner and holder of an OBE, created this work in 2005. Pursuit was a large-scale installation combining space, sound and projected video which filled an entire floor at the Baltic Art Gallery in Gateshead. A darkened environment filled with abstract, ill-defined lights and oppressive sound created a disorienting experience in which the viewer attempted in vain to define the nature of the images and what they were feeling. This artwork changed my whole perception of what art can be and how we can experience art. This wasn’t just art for my eyes but my whole body.
