Inspiring Art – Flâneur (2018) Holly Warburton

on

I have been a massive fan of Warburton’s work since the first lockdown, and Flaneur – a 4 minute animation – is a particular favourite. It centres around an artist, following his journey through the busy London nightlife and sketching its inhabitants, to a soundtrack of pseudo-Parisian music, clinking glasses, sirens, and unintelligible voices.

I love Holly’s use of colour, to me it feels like she’s carving out space in the darkness with the light, and the illuminative quality of each frame makes the whole animation feel so alive. The images she captures are so human and simple; I feel very connected to the artist witnessing them, the ‘Flaneur’, as though his eyes could very easily be my own.
