HMAD

It was the House Music and Drama (HMAD) Final today at the Senior School and the battle between Carrington, Ducat, Kensington and Paget was as competitive as ever.

HMAD is one of the most iconic experiences in the life of an Abbey student – and it is an opportunity to create and perform their own material in front of peers and staff. Each house selects a theme for their performance, and an expert judging panel made up from the teaching staff, has the difficult decision of picking a winning house.

After much deliberation, and after enjoying performances of the highest quality throughout the day, the judges decided this year’s HMAD winners were Ducat for their programme, and Kensington for their performance.

Below is an outline of the ideas adopted by each house.

Ducat – Solar Power!

Ducat’s theme for HMAD this year is solar power and disaster has struck: Gru and Vector (Despicable Me) have stolen the sun.  House Captains Lebone and Megan are initially imprisoned for the crime and then set out to find the sun and show the importance of solar energy.  Their adventure takes them into Star Wars, to a Climate Change rally, into the dark world of ‘The Woman in Black’ and even to Love Island.  Together Ducat saves the sun and showcases the significance of working together.

Carrington

When we were gifted the theme of hydropower for our performance, we immediately worried that a good show would be difficult to produce. The theme seemed too restrictive and not to mention a plane of unknown territory – neither of us knew anything about hydropower. However, after many hours of researching, planning, organising and rehearsing we developed what we believe to be a highly entertaining show with high energy levels, memorable characters and jokes peppered throughout. We are extremely proud of everyone taking part, and know that Carrington should be proud of themselves too.

Paget

With the theme of geothermal energy, the Paget House Captains put together an epic production harnessing the power of hot rocks, lava, volcanoes, geysers and…the Eurovision song contest!!?? They were moles, displaced from their home by a geothermal incident and on the search for a new home. They visited various locations related to the theme including Pompeii, the School of Rock and other underground locations to look for a new home before deciding that home was wherever they were together.

Kensington

Kensington’s performance is on the theme of Wind Energy. Our story is that across the world, the wind has completely stopped, due to the four Wind Gods of Greek mythology (North, South, East and West) having an argument and disappearing to different areas of the globe. Our mission is to find them, reunite them and save the world! During our journey we realise the importance of wind energy, as well as friendship. We meet the Wind in the Willows characters, Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz as well as many more.
