Chinese Language and Culture Club is a brand new club which provides opportunities for all the students who are interested in learning Chinese language and Chinese culture.
In the Autumn term, we launched a Chinese calligraphy course with hard-pen. Students learned how to manage the structure of strokes, allocating spacing and some basic techniques.
In Spring term, students are learning Chinese calligraphy with traditional brushes. They are introduced to the Eight Principles of “Yong” (永 : meaning forever), which are used by calligraphers to practise the most basic and common strokes in regular scripts.
In this week, students were given traditional rice papers and red rice papers to practise and write their own Fai Chun (揮春). Fai Chun is a traditional decoration that is often used during Lunar New Year. The Chinese put Fai Chun in the doorways to create an elated festive atmosphere. The phrases written on it usually mean good luck and prosperity.
