Brilliant A Level results at The Abbey

on

Students at The Abbey are celebrating wonderful A Level results today, giving them access to a wide range of outstanding courses and destinations.

As grades nationwide return to 2019 distributions, students have excelled. In total, 29 entrants secured all A* and A grades, over 41% of the cohort. More than 1 in 5 of all grades received were at A*, almost 60% at A*/A and 86% at A*-B.

These results see students head to a dazzling array of courses and experiences. Students have secured places at Cambridge to study Classics, Imperial for Economics and Finance, Bristol for Engineering Mathematics, King’s for Neuroscience and Psychology and also Politics, Philosophy and Law. Others head to Durham for Japanese Studies, Edinburgh for German and History, Newcastle for Medicine and Queen Mary University of London for Dentistry. High-level degree apprenticeships are options too, with places secured with KPMG and Deloitte.

Alongside A Levels we also celebrate amazing success in the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), an independent project much prized by leading universities. Almost 40% of EPQ grades were A*, 80% A*-A and 100% at A*-B – a remarkable set of outcomes in the first year that the EPQ has been offered alongside A Level at The Abbey. With the IB Diploma Programme also an option for students, the personalised choice available in The Abbey Sixth Form is extraordinary – and provides the best opportunity for students to find their passions and the next steps that are right for them.

The superb grades we celebrate today are important: but what matters more is the character of the young women who have achieved them. The Abbey’s all-girls setting allows students to be themselves, achieve their best and go out into the world with the confidence to shape their own futures. Research shows that graduates from all-girls’ settings are more assertive and assured in mixed company when they leave than co-ed peers. They know their voices matter and will be heard: so that is how they live their lives.

Head of The Abbey School, Will le Fleming, commented: “We are so proud of every single one of our students – and so grateful to the inspirational staff who have stood behind them every step of the way.

“Students are heading off to all sorts of wonderful destinations and experiences. We wish them joy in all they go on to do next. It has been a delight to guide them through school, in some cases all the way from Little Knellies, our nursery. Now they join the community of Abbey alumnae, which will continue to give them support that lasts lifelong. We can’t wait to hear about all that lies ahead!”
