Alumnae Second Year Uni Students Talk to Medicine Club

on

The NEW programme of Alumnae Talks for 2023/4 is underway, launching with medicine and veterinary.

Bhaavya (2022 leaver) is studying medicine at Southampton and Caitlin (2022 leaver) is at Surrey studying veterinary medicine.

Cailtin recalls how a conversation she’d had with a vet whilst doing GCSE’s had helped her with her studies and had made a promise to herself to return the favour!

Students were keen to ask more about choice of universities, the interview process and the structure of a typical day. There was some great advice about building friendships at uni, asking questions of lecturers to support learning and managing workload.

For both courses, students gained a deeper understanding about clinical work. Bhaavya spoke about her fortnightly work in a GP practice progressing to all clinical work in Years 4 & 5. Cailin spoke about the breadth of placements with one week lambing followed by placements with horses, small animals and cattle. Incidentally, on one of her work placements, Caitlin discovered that the co-owners of the stables were also former Abbey students!

The alumnae talk series is organised by the Engagement & Development Office and provides engaging and relevant opportunities for current students to benefit from the lifelong alumnae network. If you would like to get involved, please email us at alumnae@theabbey.co.uk
