Alumna Talk: Economics and Philosophy at LSE

on

The autumn term of talks given by alumnae, concluded with a visit from undergraduate Kiran Mathur (2022 leaver). Kiran is in her second year studying BSc Economics and Philosophy at the London School of Economics.

Kiran spoke to Lower and Upper VI students about her choice of modules and the workload. She took questions from the audience about studying in London and writing a personal statement.

She said the best characteristics about studying at LSE were meeting like-minded people; learning about different cultures from the large number of international students; and meeting famous people on campus – recent speakers have included former Prime Minister Gordon Brown and Olena Zelenska, First Lady of Ukraine.

Kiran was asked how being a student at The Abbey had helped her at university. She reflected how at The Abbey it was normal for girls to do everything and it was ok to be smart.

“At university, some people don’t think like that and don’t think that girls can be the smartest person in the room. The Abbey is very good at reminding you that you can do anything”.

The alumnae talk series is organised by the Engagement & Development Office and provides engaging and relevant opportunities for current students to benefit from the lifelong alumnae network.
