Alumna Costume Talk

on

Last Friday one of our Alumna students (Sophie Canniffe) visited the Textiles department to give a talk about her BA (Hons) Costume course at Arts University Bournemouth

Sophie is now in her third year and it was lovely to see examples of her costumes with a closer eye and understand the costs and efforts behind every piece. It was fascinating to hear about the whole design process from initial research to sourcing fabrics, and how issues such as sustainability and inclusion are very important.

For example, she explained her ideas and designs surrounding the concept of creating clothes for actors in wheelchairs and also presented her designs for her own interpretation of a modern Shakespeare world inspired by Six the musical.

We’d like to thank Sophie for sharing her amazing work with us, we were really inspired.
