The Christmas market in Aachen was awash with orange bobble hats last week as Lower and Upper IV (Years 8-9) German students made a three-day trip to the city. Whilst the Germans were subdued after their World Cup loss, Abbey students visited the magical market stalls by day and night to drink Kinderpunsch and hot chocolate, sample Printen (THE Aachen Christmas gingerbread speciality) and eat Bratwurst and Reibekuchen mit Apfelmus (hash browns with apple purée).
The students packed a lot into three days, learning to dance “Disco Fox” at a German dance school, ice-skating, ordering food and drink in German and, of course, the all-important Einkaufen (shopping). And you have never seen as much chocolate under one roof as at the Lindt factory outlet shop. The students were lots of fun, impeccably behaved and a real credit to the school. Frohe Weihnachten (Happy Christmas)!
