Recipe Test!

on

In English we have been studying non-fiction texts and last week Mr Dennedy gave us a horrendously written recipe for Chocolate Mole…a Mexican dish made with chicken, spices and chocolate!

We were asked to use our language skills to make the recipe clearer by adapting it and making it actually usable! Initially, I was quite worried about how it would turn out: it looked and smelt awful. Mr. Dennedy was in his element watching us all figure out what we had done well and what was not as successful. He also found the “interesting smells” far more amusing than he should have.

Fortunately, Mrs. Mair and Mrs Wooldridge did a fantastic job helping us with the actual cooking aspect of the recipe, providing valuable guidance throughout the process. My revised recipe – which I wrote with my friend Gracie – seemed to be going well but we were still worried about how it would end up. To our genuine surprise, our Chocolate Mole won “Dennedy’s Taste Test”.

Although it was silly and often quite traumatic (some of the recipes turned out to be actually hideous), it was a valuable lesson in perseverance and adapting under pressure. Despite the initial fear and worry, the successful outcome was incredibly rewarding – and delicious!
