Woodley Festival

On Saturday 5 March all four choirs from the Junior School travelled to Emmbrook School for the choral section of Woodley Festival of Music.

The day started with our Preparatory Choir ‘Cantilena’ singing in the Infant Class. Our youngest students rose to the occasion with polish and professionalism, as they performed Candle on the Water and the two part song, Umbrella.  The adjudicator, Lucy Joy Morris, complimented the choir on their lovely sound, contrasting dynamics and impressive part singing. They were awarded ‘Highly Commended’ and a silver medal.

Kensington Choir were next to perform in the Lower Junior Class where they gave engaging renditions of Ribbons and Do-Re-Mi. They were complimented on their gorgeous tone, energetic singing and excellent diction, which earned them a distinction, first place, gold medal and The Forley Trophy.

Success continued in the first of the Upper Junior Classes where Somerleaze Singers were also awarded first place, a gold medal and The John Keene Shield. Their performance of Remember My Song and Feel Good were described as engaging and energetic with excellent three-part singing.

The final choir of the day was our Chamber Choir.  They sang We Sing We Dance and Walk with me and were complimented on their accomplished and confident part singing … particularly impressive for this age-group.  After a long afternoon The Chamber Choir were also awarded a distinction, first place, gold medal and The John Keane Trophy. This was a good performance and gave them confidence for their next performance in Symphony Hall a few days later.

Every member of each choir sang superbly and we are extremely proud of them all.
