Wilson Primary Workshop

on

On Tuesday 20 June, 20 Year 6 students from Wilson Primary School joined us for a morning of fun activities in the Junior School Science Lab. The Wilson Primary School students were paired up with 10 Abbey Lower III students and took part in a fantastic workshop all about our bodies!

To start Mrs Jones asked us about our circulatory system and we investigated our heartbeat rhythm through a stethoscope. For some of the students it was their first time listening to their heart beats!

In groups we used the stethoscopes to listen to our own heartbeats and the heartbeats of our group. We discussed the importance of the heart and keeping a regular rhythm. Then we used the virtual T-shirts and iPads to explore the internal body, focusing on the blood, heart and veins. The virtual T-shirts can be scanned using the Ipad and then each system in the body can be looked at in more detail.

To complete the workshop we checked our pulse by putting two fingers under our jaws and counting for 15 seconds before multiplying our answer by four to find out our beats per minute.

It was a wonderful morning of sharing, learning and connecting with new people! We very much look forward to having Wilson Primary visit us again and continuing our partnership together!
