In February our Lower School Teams competed in their Berkshire County Championships. Rain on the 22nd February, caused disruption to the schedule, with the U13s being postponed to the 29th and the U12s being rearranged to the 5th March.
The Abbey took two teams to the U13 championships as part of the groups preparations to move to 11-a-side hockey next year. The B Team had a mixture of draws and defeats to finish fourth in their morning Pool and qualify for the Plate competition. A narrow 1-0 loss to Newlands meant they exited the competition at that stage, but the experience will help this group develop.
The A Team had one victory, two draws and a loss in the morning pools to secure qualification for the afternoon Cup matches, where they drew with Downe House and lost a very competitive match against Eagle House to exit the competition and finish sixth overall.
The U12 team competition was 5 days later and although this group has had little time to prepare, they came away with a fifth place finish following one win, three draws and two loses. A encouraging performance with much good work to be built on next year.
