Textiles Black History Month

on

As part of Black History month, our Upper III Textiles students have been finding out about traditional African Kente Cloth weaving and have created some of their own original designs.  Alongside our display of traditional prints and range of African Designers, their bright and bold creations have brought sunshine and joy to our corridor this week.

We’d also like to recommend an exhibition to visit at Somerset House which explores the stories of Black British fashion in a major new exhibition, The Missing Thread – UNTOLD STORIES OF BLACK BRITISH FASHION, curated by the Black Orientated Legacy Development Agency (BOLD). Spanning from the 1970s to the present day, The Missing Thread charts the shifting landscape of Black British culture and the unique contribution it has made to Britain’s rich design history.
