Berkshire Young Musician of the Year

on

In November I submitted a video entry for the Berkshire Young Musician of the Year and was delighted to be selected to go through to the semi-finals which took place on 21 January.

I decided to play one of my favourite pieces, Lyphard Melody, which is a beautiful and melodic piece, evoking a sense of nostalgia and tranquillity. A competition is a showcase of the whole package of the performer, including techniques and skills also motion, musicality and interpretation to the music.

Regular and focused practice throughout many years has helped me to progress steadily and build confidence in my abilities. Many opportunities to perform in school at the weekly Interludes recital series and the piano masterclass as well as outside school, have honed my stage presence and helped me to overcome my performance anxiety.

I know participating in competitions is not solely about winning but rather about embracing the journey of learning, personal growth and the joy derived from sharing the passion for piano with others. I was, however, absolutely thrilled to win through to the finals which take place in Windsor on Sunday 17 March.
