Sixth Form students Amelia and Lucy collected the award for ‘School of the Year 2022‘ at a gala presentation on Sunday evening.  The Reading Sports Awards celebrate the outstanding achievements of athletes, sports clubs, coaches and schools in the Borough of Reading. The award was presented to The Abbey by Sir John Madejski OBE.

The judges recognised our commitment to help girls and young women in the community to find belonging in sport and for creating a positive impact on the lives of young people. Judges praised the Reading Festival of Sport @The Abbey for engaging with community sports clubs across the town and the leadership shown by students excelling in their chosen field, to inspire other young people in the wider community.

Lucy: “The award ceremony was an amazing experience. Being able to hear about other people’s sporting stories and the challenges they had to face to get to where they are was very valuable. Accepting the award, for school of the year, was a great feeling as we were representing all the other students of the school that participated allowing us to win”.

Amelia: “I was delighted to accept the award on behalf of the School at Reading Sports Awards. I enjoyed learning about the calibre of athleticism across Reading and what it takes to reach high levels in different sports. Thank you for the opportunity.”
