Lower VI Student Life Trip

on

Lower VI spent three days last week on a trip to Bristol. After setting off from school, we stopped en route at an Outdoor Activity Centre to spend the morning completing team building activities such as problem solving, bridge building and canoeing (only one person fell in!).

After a hot and fun few hours, we got back on the coach again and drove to our hotel in the centre of Bristol before being allowed out in groups to explore and find dinner. It was a lovely way to see the city and there was no shortage of food options for us! The day culminated with a trip to an indoor crazy golf centre where we enjoyed slushies and played a few rounds of crazy golf (admittedly to differing levels of success.) Finally, we went back to the hotel and got ready for the next day of exploring the city.

Thursday was devoted to a scavenger hunt around Bristol. We got into groups and had a series of locations we needed to spot and take a selfie with such as SS Great Britain, The Clifton Suspension Bridge and M Shed Museum (where the Edward Colston Statue now is). We spent the day in the sun finding our way around the city and discovering different parts of Bristol and its heritage. In the evening we returned to the hotel for a quick bite to eat before meeting the year group at the Hippodrome for an evening performance of Disney’s The Lion King. The show was absolutely amazing and such a fun way to end the day.

Our final day in Bristol was Friday which was the first day of the Bristol University Open Day so we all spent the day going to different subject fairs, lectures and tours getting to know what uni life would look like there. It was fascinating to see how student life fits within the city that we had got to know over the previous few days. The talks were engaging and covered a wide range of topics from subject specific ones to talks on applying for university and years abroad.

The trip was extremely helpful to get a better understanding of what lies beyond school and how it would be to live and study in a different city. It was also so much fun to spend a few days together as a year group – an opportunity I didn’t think we would get the chance to do in sixth-form.

Finally, we all want to say a huge thank you to Miss Burrows and all of the staff involved in planning the trip, organising it and looking after us so well.
