Junior School’s Black History Month Assembly

on

October marks the start of Black History Month, a time to honour and recognize the invaluable contributions of the Black community. Throughout the year, there are months that celebrate the history of different groups of people. These include, amongst others, LGBT+ History Month in June, Disability Pride month in July and of course Black History month in October. At The Abbey, we teach a diverse and inclusive curriculum, ensuring to teach about world history and marginalised groups, throughout the year.

This morning the Lower Is and Upper Is had a special Assembly from Ms Mockler and Mrs Vorster, introducing them to Black History Month. Simultaneously, the Upper IIs and Lower IIIs had an assembly from Mrs Heard, picking up on Lower IIIP’s assembly theme of respect for one another and embracing the fantastic diversity within our community.  This led into an introduction to Black History Month and the students look forward to saluting our sisters during October and beyond.
