On Wednesday 15 November I was fortunate enough to be a part of the Girls Advocacy Event hosted at Gray’s Inn London.
The event brought together 90 students from 6 girls schools, and professionals in the legal field in order to celebrate the role of women in advocacy over 100 years and discuss issues facing women in the justice system today.
There were some incredible student performances celebrating female pioneers in the legal field such as Mary Wollstonecraft and Emmeline Pankhurst, in honour of the wider movement for equality and justice for women.
A panel discussion celebrated the success of women in law whilst introducing the many issues we still face today – the discussion was insightful and inspiring, allowing the perspectives of women working in law to be shared and the panel to engage in topical discussions about our judiciary and its place in the international community.
The panel discussion was followed by drinks and networking which brought about passionate and reflective debates between students and professionals on topics varying from AI in the legal world to the Supreme Court’s ruling on the UK-Rwanda Refugee policy. The evening was inspiring and hopeful and I look forward to future Girls Advocacy events that allow the wider movement for equality and justice for women to be as engagingly discussed.
