Charity Prefects

on

Over our time as charity prefects, we have enjoyed planning and organising many events in order to raise money for our chosen charities, Young Minds, Support U, and Wonder Foundation. To begin with, our first charity event was the ice lolly sale to raise money for the Refugee Support Group in June last year. This was very popular with everyone in the school, because of the very hot weather!

This academic year we had several events. The first was helping out in a charity bake sale organised by Ipek in Lower IV to raise money for those affected by earthquakes in Morocco. Many teachers and students all baked homemade cakes and cookies and other sweet treats to sell making this a huge success and as a result we were able to raise a lot of money for those who needed it. In addition to this we also had several other bake sales to raise money for various relief efforts around the world.

We also did our annual Macmillan Coffee morning which was again very popular amongst all year groups and we were able to collect £2 per student in each year to contribute towards cancer research. On this day we also had Jeans for Genes day where all members of our community wore some form of denim.

Our next proposal was from Mrs Bambrick who had heard from a friend about a new initiative in their school to raise money for breast cancer. Following our meeting with her we were able to start the process for this initiative to be implemented in both the senior and junior school. As part of this everyone in school and parents were encouraged to bring in old bras which they no longer use and place them in bra bins dotted around school. For every tonne of bras collected £700 would be donated towards researching breast cancer. As a school this was a very successful initiative where within the first half term of the bins being in school we were able to fill them up and send them off to the collection centre.

The highlight of our time as charity prefects was by far the Charity Quiz Night. We decided to raise money for our international charity the Wonder Foundation. It was a very upbeat and fun-filled evening with lots of different trivia questions testing different areas of knowledge all wrapped up by a delicious dinner from our wonderful catering team and some DIY mocktails made by ourselves. We received lots of positive feedback and raised a lot of money which went towards a fantastic cause. It was great to see the senior leadership team win the quiz overall.

To wrap off the year we have planned a Dress Down day for Upper III to Upper V, and a Dress Up day for Sixth Form, to raise money for Comic Relief. The sixth form in particular had several interesting group costumes such as, Alvin and the Chipmunks, Ratatouille and The Jonas Brothers.

All in all the five of us have had a fantastic time as charity prefects and really appreciate all the support from members of staff, parents and students alike who have helped make each of the events as successful as they have been. Finally we would like to say a very warm good luck to the incoming charity prefects who we are sure will do an amazing job!
