Abbey Artist in Residence: Meet Connell McMenamin

on

In 2019, our artist in residence, Connell McMenamin, embarked upon a three year program of study at Barcelona Academy of Art. His aim was to acquire robust drawing and painting skills, a set of tools in order to be able to express himself fully.

Since returning from Barcelona, he’s been exploring his own artistic interests, building on the technical skills learned whilst at the Academy, as well as expanding his artistic voice through personal work and commissions. Connell’s main area of focus right now is portraiture as well as a strong interest in still life and landscape painting. Connell currently runs a weekly Figure Drawing club at The Abbey, as well as offering a variety of other workshops and special projects with our students.

Connell says, “I see painting and drawing as a way to both observe the world and to learn more about myself; who I am and what I think and feel about what I’m observing. To me, every painting is in a sense, a conversation, between the artist, the subject and viewer”

We are very excited to share Connell’s work with our Abbey community through his exhibition in the Senior School reception and would like to invite all that can make it to his private view on Thursday 21 March.

We look forward to seeing lots of people there to share and enjoy this wonderful exhibition!
