Upper I to Beale Park

on

The Upper I’s had a fantastic time this week at Beale Park, learning about endangered animals and conservation.

The students looked at different things humans are doing that impact the environment, such as over harvesting, causing pollution and an increasing population.

They got to touch and hold a Madagascan hissing cockroach whose job is to eat rotten food on the forest floor, break it down into nutrients and release energy into the soil. This cockroach is an endangered animal and has such an important role to play in its habitat, but due to deforestation it is at risk of extinction.

They also touched a Brazilian rainbow boa, which was a highlight for some.

Beale Park has over 160 species of birds and animals, including several rare breeds. It was a beautiful day out in the sunshine and one students are sure not to forget.
