Interludes Recital

on

On Wednesday lunchtime, I had the opportunity to perform in and see five ensembles play a wide variety of different genres.

Firstly, the Saxophone Ensemble played ‘Lemon Meringue’ which was a lively, uplifting piece that made a great opening to this concert. The second piece that was played was by the String Orchestra called ‘Jig From St. Paul’s Suite’ by Gustav Holst. I played in this orchestra and I think the piece was full of energy and our orchestra executed this piece very well.

Then, the flute ensemble played ‘The Wellerman’ which was a song recognised by many in the audience. I particularly enjoyed this piece because it was very well-known. Then for the penultimate performance, The Abbey Strings played ‘Vivaldinia’ by Peter Martin. I also performed in this piece, and I found it fun to play with other musicians around my age and to converse with new people I hadn’t interacted with before. It was also interesting to see a variety of different talents throughout the orchestra.

For the final performance, the Percussion ensemble played ‘Cantina Band’ from Star Wars. I really enjoyed this because I am a big fan of Star Wars and I enjoyed hearing a different instrument from the original sound track.
