Miss Sheedy joined The Abbey as a Nursery Practitioner in September 2023 and loves being part of the Little Knellies team which she describes as “More of a family than we are colleagues.” It is this family that’s currently supporting her through completing a Level 3 Apprenticeship in Early Years Childcare. Miss Sheedy has even recently been awarded ‘Apprentice of the Month,’ put forward by her assessor, and The Abbey is so proud to see her thriving and getting the recognition that she deserves in her learning.

About a year after joining Little Knellies, Miss Sheedy realised how much she was enjoying her role in the nursery and that she wanted to take a formal apprenticeship to gain a formal qualification. Talking to a member of our HR team, it was explained to her how the school offers support to complete apprenticeships – and Miss Sheedy also thanks that member of HR for giving her the final push she needed to go for it!
Miss Sheedy shared that the nursery team are, “very supportive, always trying to give me incentives to keep going and motivation to complete assignments.” This wonderful team spirit is one of her favourite things about working at The Abbey, “we definitely all get on and I think that really helps with a really positive atmosphere for the girls to work and learn in. I think that positive energy rubs off on them and creates a lovely atmosphere and you can definitely see that with their energy and their joy throughout the day.”
What is Miss Sheedy’s favourite thing about working at The Abbey? “I love seeing the growth and development within the girls, following children’s different stages and watching them reach milestones that they’re working towards. It’s a very positive job, you’ve always got goals.”
Miss Sheedy hopes to complete her apprenticeship by next summer and we will be supporting her every step of the way.
The Abbey School is very proud to support all employees and provide the opportunity to continue with their professional development – enabling us to deliver the highest quality learning experience to our students. We have had new staff join us as Apprentices and staff undertake Apprenticeships once already in their role.

We are delighted to say that there is even a current vacancy as an Early Years Apprentice. Due to demand for places at Little Knellies we are recruiting more staff. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain a qualification working with our dedicated Little Knellies team, including Miss Sheedy!
So, if you know someone that would enjoy working in our nursery – please tell them all about it! Everything they would need to know is in our job advert linked here or contact our HR team for further information hr@theabbey.co.uk.
