Wonderful A Level Results

Abbey students are celebrating wonderful results today that see them go on to a range of world-class destinations.

Between them students have secured places at over 20 of the 24 Russell Group universities. This includes places at Cambridge to study Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology, Oxford for Biochemistry, St Andrews for International Relations, and Bristol for Philosophy and Politics – and also for Medicine and for Mechanical Engineering. Students are going to UCL for Economics, Warwick for Maths, Sheffield for Architecture, Leeds for Medicine and also Modern Languages, and Newcastle for Dentistry – and a huge range of other exciting outcomes besides.

As ever Abbey students are successful across such a broad range, from high-level degree apprenticeships to the best creative courses, with students studying art and songwriting and technical theatre at RADA and the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance among other destinations.

These outcomes have been secured on the back of outstanding results. More than 1 in 5 of all A Level grades achieved were at A* and in the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), a project celebrating independence and initiative much prized by universities, this rises to over 40%.

Overall 22% of A Level grades were at A*, almost 60% at A*/A and 84% at A*-B, with over 35% of the cohort achieving all A and A* grades.

These results follow on from spectacular grades in the IB Diploma Programme, announced earlier this year. The Abbey Sixth Form offers a remarkable degree of personalised choice and the best opportunity for students to find their passions and their pathway in life.

Head of The Abbey, Mr Will le Fleming, commented: “We’re so proud of all our students not just for their successes but for the generous and positive way in which they achieved them. We passionately believe in the benefits of single-sex education that puts girls first, in some

cases from the age of three at our nursery Little Knellies, right through to 18. The collaboration among students is inspiring to witness and we know that our alumnae continue to support each other lifelong.”

Head of the Senior School, Dr Sarah Tullis, added: “We’re really seeing the benefits of our sector-leading ARCH programme, bringing together students from all backgrounds with experts in a wide range of fields to provide real-world learning. It is not just the doors through which our students walk: it is the confidence with which they do so that makes all the difference.

“We’re hugely grateful for the tireless efforts of staff. These results are the product of the remarkable learning that takes place every day in our wonderful new Sixth Form Centre. Staff and students work side-by-side, with huge amounts of 1:1 support. For us, what matters most is that every individual is valued, and that is never more true than when helping students find the next step that is right for them. We can’t wait to see where their journeys take them next!”
