‘Last weekend I and a small group of Abbey students and staff participated in the Windsor Women’s 10k to raise money for DEBRA, a local charity which supports people with a rare condition called epidermolysis bullosa (EB). This disease causes sufferers’ skin to be extremely fragile, blistering at the slightest touch, meaning that their life expectancies are extremely limited. DEBRA supported my cousin Oliver throughout his life until he sadly passed away at age 32, so it holds a significant place in my heart.
I think that everyone would agree that we had great fun doing the race, with perfect weather and a lovely (if slightly hilly) course. Despite only having a short amount of time to train after the return to school, everyone aced it and a massive shout out to Emma and Ms Lorenco, who had never run a 10k before! [Massive shout out to Carys too, who came third overall with a time of 40:10 – amazing! Ms Brunskill]
So far we have raised £280 – thank you so much to everyone who has already donated! The fundraiser is on my Instagram page at carys_westcott_tri, for anyone who would be happy to give any amount, large or small.
