This week was the highly anticipated Wellbeing Wimbledon Wednesdays final!
Semi‑Final 1 (Bark-Jones & Whelan v Durrant & Lawrence) consisted of a thrilling contest full of cheeky volleys, deceiving drop shots and impressive rallies. In a fine display of teamwork, Durrant & Lawrence narrowly edged past Bark‑Jones & Whelan, securing a well deserved spot in the final.

Semi-Final 2 (Hills & McCabe v Rust‑D’Eye & MacMillan) was equally as exciting. With McMillan unavailable, wildcard Hickman rose to the challenge and stepped in at the eleventh hour to offer Rust-D’Eye some support on court. Although Hills & McCabe kept their heads in the game right until the final point, Rust-D’Eye & Hickman had the edge and emerged victorious after a hard‑fought battle.

As the surge of spectators edged closer to the centre court in anticipation of the final, Durrant & Lawrence & Rust-D’Eye & Hickman were awarded a quick refreshment break to get physically and mentally prepared for the epic match ahead…

The grand final showcased high-quality doubles play from both sides. Despite a few questionable ‘out’ calls and record breaking serves from both dynamic duo’s, Durrant & Lawrence convincingly took the win, becoming the first ever champions of The Abbey’s Wimbledon Tennis tournament!

A big thank you to everybody who has played this term and also to those who have spectated. Finally, thank you to the Catering team for the incredible Tennis themed refreshments – I doubt there are many schools that serve strawberries and cream, tennis ball shaped biscuits and squash while watching staff and student Tennis matches!
Bring on next year…
