Another year, another Enterprise Day – as the current Upper IV cohort had their first significant experience of Enterprise activities as part of the school’s Careers provision. The Enterprise Day gives the students an opportunity to “Build a business in a day” and learn how businesses function and how all the elements link together. The creativity and innovation displayed by all the teams this year was superb.

Business ideas included a new design of make-up pen, sportswear for women, an app to help teens and young women to explore their personal style, wellbeing support, wedding planning, jewellery with built-in tech to protect women and a VR theme park.

Over the course of the day, the students discovered how their team members liked to work before building their teams, generating ideas and focusing on the various functional areas of their proposed business, before presenting their ideas and plans to the judges.

Various awards were presented for Teamwork, Marketability, Operational achievability, Innovation and Presentation, before the big one – Upper IV Business of the Year – was announced.

Many thanks to the judges – Jonathan, Sam, Nikhita and Kevin – for giving up their time and congratulations to everyone in Upper IV, in particular, to Portal Park who were the overall winners. Ganeve, Emily, Sejal, Carissa, Pippa, Joy, Angie, April, Isobel, Khyathi and Jiya developed a fascinating and well-considered idea for a theme park experience utilising virtual reality to allow people who would otherwise be unable to participate in the real world to enjoy the thrills of riding a rollercoaster! Quite brilliant, I am sure you will agree!
