Today we had a Food and Nutrition lesson, and this time I was really excited because we were making everyone’s favourite food, pizza!
We started off by making the dough for the base. We added flour, sugar, salt, olive oil, and yeast to do this. The yeast helped to make the bread nice and soft by rising the dough. Then we added some warm water, a little bit at a time, until it became a dough. We judged the quantity ourselves, a new skill then kneaded it and set it aside to proof (this helped it rise as the yeast began to ferment). While waiting for the dough we started chopping up the toppings.
I brought sweetcorn, olives, chicken, sausages, and pineapple (in my opinion, it’s the best topping, but this is a controversial opinion, so choose for yourself)! We added our tomato puree to the base and then added the cheese. Next, we added the toppings, and I could already imagine eating my yummy pizza! We put it in the oven, and I was already impatient about it coming out! I couldn’t stop thinking about how delicious it would be with all those toppings! As soon as everybody’s pizza came out of the oven, the aroma spread rapidly in the food room, which gave everyone great excitement! When I tried my pizza it was like a slice of heaven, it elevated my taste palette and brought a huge smile to my face!
I am so happy that we learned how to make pizza from scratch. It will help me for many more years to come as an affordable and healthy meal that can be made to use up ripe food. I can add all the techniques we learned in this process to my culinary skills!
