Upper I visit the Green Park Wind Turbine

on

This morning, Upper I students had an exciting visit to one of Reading’s most iconic landmarks – the Green Park Wind Turbine. Towering over the landscape, this impressive structure plays a key role in providing renewable energy to the local area.

During their visit, the students learned fascinating facts about the turbine’s height and dimensions. Standing at an incredible 120 metres from the ground to the tip of its blade, it is one of the tallest land-based wind turbines in the UK. Each blade measures 35 metres in length, and the entire structure is installed on a deep foundation to ensure stability in strong winds. It also weighs about 300 tonnes.

Beyond its impressive size, the students also discovered the significance of wind energy. They discussed how harnessing natural resources like wind can help reduce our dependence on fossil fuels, cut carbon emissions, and create a more sustainable future. The visit reinforced the vital role that energy plays in our daily lives, from powering our homes to running essential services.

The students left with a newfound appreciation for renewable energy and how small changes in our everyday lives—such as reducing energy waste—can contribute to a greener planet. The trip to the Green Park Wind Turbine was an eye-opening experience, inspiring them to think about how they can help shape a more sustainable future for all.
