This term, the Upper I students embarked on an exciting Roman adventure to enrich their Unit of Inquiry on invasions—focusing particularly on the Roman invasion of Britain.

Last week, the students visited Reading Museum, where they took part in interactive workshops, explored authentic Roman artefacts, and engaged in activities that brought daily Roman life to life. The museum offered a fascinating insight into Roman Britain, with hands-on experiences that deepened their historical understanding.

On Wednesday of this week, the students enjoyed an immersive Roman Day at school. They participated in Roman food tasting, created intricate mosaic tiles, and researched the lives of Roman soldiers. In the afternoon, they worked together to design and construct life-sized Roman soldier outfits using a variety of craft materials. Each group focused on different parts of the armor, resulting in an impressive collaborative display.
Both experiences sparked curiosity and enthusiasm, and the students demonstrated thoughtful reflection and creativity throughout. It was a wonderful way to consolidate their learning and bring the Roman world vividly to life.
