Time to reflect: on becoming

on

Just as we love and accept a new born baby as it is, but do not hope it will stay as it is, we can love and accept ourselves and others, whilst also hoping for, and working towards development and growth.

At The Abbey, we value loving who we are, whilst also reaching for who we could be. Each of us are great moral and spiritual beings in embryo, with latent but powerful capacities both to love and to be loved.

Our students have a large team of amazing, talented, incredibly hardworking and committed adults, who are eager and ready to fight for them. They want the absolute best for our students. We encourage and try to embody the school values of courage, honesty and kindness in all we do. We try to practise virtuous character, because it does take practice.

We try to be honest when it is easier to blame, to be courageous when it is easier to say nothing, and to be kind when the mistakes of others are so much easier to see than our own.

We seek and strive towards the good in all its forms. We aim to raise emotionally intelligent and spiritually mature young people, who confidently know who they are and how to connect meaningfully with others.

We believe in having compassion for ourselves too, especially in those moments when we feel worn down with self-doubt. In these times, we try to lift and support each other, to remember that it’s always okay to ask for help and try to treat ourselves with the grace we would offer a friend.

May peace be with you,

Chaplain Jest
