The Maths Round Up

on

On Thursday 25 September, students from Lower V to Upper VI participated in one of two prestigious national competitions: the Mathematical Competition for Girls (MCG) and the Mathematical Olympiad for Girls (MOG). Both challenge papers demand exceptional problem-solving skills, creativity, and a deep understanding of advanced mathematical concepts and their abstract applications.

This was the inaugural year of the MCG, meaning that students had limited preparatory materials available. Nevertheless, their results were outstanding — of the 14 participants, 10 achieved Merits and one was awarded a Distinction. Some of the group are pictured proudly displaying their certificates.

We also celebrate the results of the MOG, with 3 merits! Sophie in Lower VI coming very close to a distinction. Congratulations! With the recently completed Senior Maths Challenge, we look forward to celebrating further achievements in mathematical excellence at the end of term.

In the next half term, we are looking forward to the Senior Team Challenge, Maths Week, Café Maths, and several assemblies which, among other things, will explore why 2025 is such a significant and fascinating year in Mathematics.
