Last Saturday, The Junior School proudly hosted its annual Festival of Sport, a highlight of the Reading Children’s Festival – a borough-wide celebration of activities for children of all ages.

We were thrilled to welcome GB gymnast Claudia Fragapane as our special guest, as well as Louis Pugh, a coach from Reading Football Community Trust. Claudia shared her inspiring journey into gymnastics, from discovering the sport as a child to competing on the world stage. Her story set a motivating tone for the day.

Our Junior School sports leaders then led an enthusiastic warm-up, kicking off a morning packed with activity. Children aged 3 to 9 took part in a wide variety of sports, including football, netball, cricket, gymnastics, dance, rugby, and athletics.

The Festival of Sport is all about encouraging children to get active, try new sports, and enjoy physical activity in a supportive and exciting environment. This year, we were also delighted to welcome local clubs who showcased opportunities for children to get involved in their respective clubs: Reading FC Community Trust, Sonning Hockey Club, GD Tennis, Woodley Netball Club, and Reading Athletics Club – thank you for your support!

A huge thank you to everyone involved in The Abbey Festival of Sport 2025, especially our Junior sports leaders: Chloe, Sophie, Aadya, Huihui & Elisha in Lower III, and our Senior sports leaders: Phoebe, Csilla & Amelie. Their leadership, positivity, and kindness truly stood out!
