Thank You for the Music with Lower III

On 11 March, Lower III came together for their Thank You for the Music Concert.  The students have written their own reviews of the event which encapsulate the evening perfectly.

‘On Tuesday night Lower III participated in a recital. All of our performances were wonderful and brought joy to me. At first I was really nervous but as I sang along with Amba I felt more confident as it went deeper into the performance. My favourite part of the whole recital was at the end when we were all singing the song, ‘Thank You for the Music’. It was a really happy and enjoyable moment for all of Lower III.’

‘Last night, Lower III participated in a recital that took place at the Abbey Senior School. Everyone came, even the people who didn’t play an instrument!  The recital was around 1 hour long, but we didn’t get bored as we got snacks laid out for us on the tables. After we played our pieces, we were each handed a beautiful paper flower made out of old music sheets. It was really fun since everyone was performing pieces from different genres. We had some Disney, pop, Mexican, and even some K-Pop! The people who didn’t play an instrument got to be compères which means that they introduced all the pieces. I played my flute and I am very happy that I didn’t mess it up on stage. We got to wear formal dresses.’

‘Yesterday night we had the Thank You for the Music recital. We were all really nervous but I think we absolutely nailed our performances. We really went all out for every one of our amazing acts. I was really wowed by how many children came out of their comfort zone to show their talents, even when they might not have the courage to do those things normally. It was a very emotional night because everyone had a chance to show their true /real selves, and the most lovely bit was when we came together at the end to sing ‘ Thank You for the Music’, which was, for me, the highlight of the whole entire recital. A lot of thanks to Mrs. Adams, Mrs. Heard, Mrs. Shepherd, Mrs. McAlpine, Mrs. Clark, Miss. Dantas, Dr. Glyn, and our new Senior School Head, Dr. Sarah Tullis, who gave a very motivational speech at the end thanking all the parents, teachers, and us, the students. After that night, all I really want to say is: Thank you for the music! Because I really wouldn’t be the person I am without music: I grew up listening to it on the way to school and after that I really couldn’t be stopped when it came to music. The Abbey Junior has given me so many chances to show my real self, and for that I am grateful.’

‘There were round tables with snacks, napkins and cups on them to greet us with a nice concert. The stage where everybody performed was nice and big and had gorgeous lighting so that when people went up they could be seen nice and clearly. When I first walked in there was no one but after the show there were people filling up the hallways of the senior school.’

‘I loved the whole evening as it ran smoothly and was amazing. I really enjoyed watching my classmates come out of their comfort zone because those who are usually quieter were singing or playing instruments. I got to introduce my classmates to my parents and saw my friends in lovely outfits. I think my personal favourite was Stella on the drums with Murder on the Dance Floor or Amba, Abby and Sze Ching singing Shine Bright Like a Diamond.’
