The Abbey continues to make progress in enabling student and staff collaboration on environmental actions and awareness and in achieving high standards of sustainability.

Here are some highlights from 2025-2026:

The school has produced its first Climate Action Plan, which focuses on five main targets: increasing biodiversity on our school grounds, expanding climate education, decarbonisation, adaptation to climate change, and reducing waste. The full Climate Action Plan is available on the school website.

This year, students helped to plant hundreds of trees on the Senior School astroturf, students at the Junior School created a new bug hotel, and the school’s conservation gardens have continued to attract and support essential pollinators. A new bike shelter was also installed at the Senior School to help encourage sustainable travel to school.

The Junior School Eco Council attended a full-day climate action event hosted by the University of Reading and Senior School Eco prefects delivered an assembly outlining the school’s Climate Action Plan.

The Sustainability Lead, working with senior leadership, finance, and estates, completed energy, waste, and transportation audits in order to produce a baseline of our school’s carbon emissions.

Next year, the work of the Sustainability Lead and Eco Councils at both the Junior and Senior Schools look forward to continuing our whole school journey toward increased sustainability.
