Students at The Abbey are celebrating spectacular GCSE results today. The headlines demonstrate the excellence of their achievement: 44% of all grades are at the top level of 9 and 89% are at 9-7 (A*-A). Over a quarter of the year group secured the A* equivalent grades of 8 and 9 in all their subjects.
These outcomes have been secured across 26 subject disciplines, showing the remarkable range of learning and aspiration of Abbey students. Additional Maths was a new option for students this year and they literally could not have done better, with every single candidate taking the subject securing the top grade.
The stellar results continue the trajectory of sustained excellence at The Abbey. Since 2019 our grade 9-7 success rate has improved by 10% and the level of top grade 9s has seen an extraordinary rise of almost 60%. These brilliant outcomes at GCSE have contributed to remarkable growth at the top of the school, with a 33% increase in Sixth Form numbers over recent years, taking advantage of the wonderful new Sixth Form Centre that opened last year.
Head of The Abbey, Mr Will le Fleming, commented: “We’re so proud of all students and staff. The overall grades represent a wonderful achievement but as ever our focus is on celebrating and valuing each individual for their personal success. The care and mutual support among students, and between students and staff, is what makes our all-girls setting so special.”
Head of The Abbey Senior School, Dr Sarah Tullis, added: “These results demonstrate the exceptional benefit and added value at the heart of this wonderful community. We’re so grateful to our staff, who are tireless in supporting students, from extra classes to all the time spent 1:1 with students giving advice and guidance.
“Academic excellence is part of who we are, but alongside it, we’re passionate about real-world learning and helping students find their own passions. Simply – we put girls first and give them the opportunities they deserve. These kinds of grades are about opening doors and giving students the widest choice when it comes to their future. Our goal is always to help them live with joy: in the end that’s what all their experiences at school are for.”
