Success at Woodley Festival for Katherine in Upper III

In March, Katherine took part in several classes within the Instrumental Section of the Woodley Festival of Music & Arts, embracing the opportunity to share her violin playing through solo, recital and ensemble performances.

In the Under 13 Recital Class, Katherine performed two contrasting works: The Boy Paganini by Edward Mollenhauer and Méditation from Thaïs by Jules Massenet. Her performance was warmly received by the adjudicator, who commended her clear musical direction, expressive range of tone colours and the emotional depth she brought to both pieces. In a highly competitive class, Katherine was awarded Second Place.

Katherine also performed chamber music at the festival for the first time, joining her younger brother and friends in a string quartet to perform Por Una Cabeza. The group was awarded Second Place, with the adjudicator highlighting their strong ensemble awareness and sensitive shaping of musical ideas.

In addition, Katherine took part in two large ensemble classes as a member of Ensemble Appassionato and Ensemble Crescendo, achieving further success with Gold and Silver awards respectively.

It was a highly successful and enjoyable weekend of music-making, and Katherine particularly valued the opportunity to perform alongside friends and fellow musicians. She went on to achieve further success in the Pianoforte Section of the festival, where she was awarded an additional two Silver medals.

Congratulations to Katherine on a fantastic set of performances and well-deserved success.
